Marty Borko—founding member of the Orange County Land Trust and longtime volunteer/supporter of the Basha Kill Area Association—recently opened the Greater Bashakill Fund with the Community Foundation of Orange, Sullivan and Rockland (CFOSRNY) to be used for the protection of the Bashakill marsh and education of its potential users.

Donations to the fund can be made on the CFOSRNY website.

Once the fund reaches $25,000, grants will be distributed. According to the fund agreement, the grants will be decided upon by a vote of three people: Maura Muller, President, Sullivan County Audubon Society; Joyce Depew,  President, Edgar A. Mearns Bird Club; Leslie Otto, President, Basha Kill Area Association.

Based in Montgomery, NY, the Community Foundation of Orange, Sullivan & Rockland connects people who care with causes that matter. Established in 1999, the Foundation helps philanthropic individuals, businesses and organizations establish charitable funds that will award grants and scholarships, for good, forever. The Foundation has significantly increased the region’s charitable capital and has empowered donors to make a profound difference in the quality of life in our region. Since its inception, the Foundation, with its donors and fund representatives, has awarded nearly $45 million in grants and scholarships. The Foundation currently administers 620 active charitable funds that represent nearly $73 million in assets to support animal welfare, arts and culture, education, the environment, health and human services, recreation, and youth.
